“How much of human life is lost in waiting.” – Emerson
I’m an Emerson junkie AND (note I didn’t say but here) I’m not sure I agree with this quote from him. What do you think? Is life lost while we’re waiting?
I think waiting is an important part of life. There are so many times I wish I had THE answer – THE DEFINITIVE YES or THE DEFINITIVE NO. Those definitives often don’t happen for me. And the older I get, the more I’m learning that there IS a third option – THE DEFINITIVE WAIT.
For me, waiting is an active option – an active choice. It’s the gap between what was and what’s next. Waiting is what is.
It’s not always easy though. Waiting can be full of anxiety, frustration and fear. When those gremlins try to sit beside me in the waiting room, I try to find a new seat beside hope, willingness and trust. If I can’t spot them easily, I look harder. Maybe they’ve gone to get some coffee. They’ll be back.

I’m waiting to heal from surgery. Overdid and undermedicated yesterday. When will I learn to wait PATIENTLY? My daughter is 7 1/2 months pregnant. She is trying to wait patiently, too. We found napping and oreos helpful this afternoon.

heal on dear Robin~ and wait/rest on dear daughter ~ and hey, about those oreos… crunch them up. mix then with cream cheese. roll the mixture into little balls and dip in chocolate. talk about healing!

I’m thinking all the thoughts on waiting are going with my “word for the year”…. allow! It seems that at this point in my life I am being called to learn to allow what will happen to happen…… and often that involves waiting. I agree it isn’t always to wait, but I am learning the wait is worth it in the end.
