week # 28 in an experimental year…

One of my rituals for each new year is to choose a word to influence me for the year. My word for 2011 is EXPERIMENT. To support my EXPERIMENTAL focus, I commit to post the results of a new experiment each Sunday of this year.

OK, so i know it wasn’t The Best Choice I could’ve made, but I made it.

And I made it through it.

I experimented with going without caffeine this week.  SO not a good idea.  I was grouchy; tired; antsy; and sad.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, during my chocolate-fast, caffeine is my friend.

So this week without my friend was beyond rugged.  I know several of you are dancing with going without caffeine over the summer.  I wish you well.

I’m just NOT going to join you.

Where’s that Diet Sundrop?!

What kind of role does caffeine play in your life?

  1. Ahhh, that first cup of coffee in the morning! Coffee is the one ‘vice’ in m life that I cling to without compromise or letup. Over the years I have come to drink fewer cups each day, but I still love two potent cups full of French Roast or Guatemalan each morning, with real sugar and half-ahd-half and just a sprinkle of cinnamon. That’s all–I drink caffeine free sodas if possible, and avoid coffee in the afternoon and chocolate in the evening or I pay with rotten sleep. Coffee, an on-line chat with my friend Mike first thing in the morning, and a window check of my garden as the light grows strong–only way to start the day!

  2. I say that caffeine plays no role in my life because I drink decaf everything…but those two Anacin I take everyday sure gives me the kick I need!

  3. I wouldn’t say I’m hooked on caffeine, but I do enjoy coffee in the morning. And considering I only began drinking coffee ten years ago, that’s saying some.

I always loved the smell of coffee, but never the taste. Then WHAM…when I turned 40, I started drinking the stuff and haven’t stopped.

YAY you for giving it a go without the java, but I’m glad you are letting it back into your day. And I’m willing to beat you will enjoy it even more than you did a week ago! 🙂

  4. Penny ~ i’m with you! i’m sooooo enjoying those two cups in the morning. i DO have additional caff in the mid afternoons, but this experiment HAS helped me see that i don’t need it other times as much as i’d thought. whew…

Vicki ~ sad you have to take Anacin. yowza! the only time i ever took it, i felt like i could clean mine and all of my neighbors’ windows thought. but it doesn’t even make the house smell good 🙂

Judi ~ right you are …about enjoying it even more and The Smell!

    THANKS, ya’ll!
