My word for this year is LEARN.
So it just makes sense to use this Year of Sundays to reflect on 52 of my most significant Life Lessons. Some may seem more significant than others, but each one has changed how I live my life in powerful way. I’d love to hear if and how any of these same lessons have surfaced in the classroom of Your Life.
Living with a dog requires mutual training.
My dog Blossom likes to drink a lot of water. After a few months of living with her, I had her checked by the vet to be sure she’s OK – she is.
I needed a solution. I figured out if I didn’t want her to wake me up at 3am to go out, I needed to limit her nightly water intake. So I took up her water bowl at 8pm each night.
It didn’t take her long to figure out that there was plenty of water in the toilet. So I started keeping that lid closed. Then she figured out how to jump into the bathtub and even nudge the faucet a bit. So I put a towel-covered square of bubble wrap in the bottom of the tub. That first night, I was still awakened at an ungodly hour, but it was from the sound of her yelping in surprise. Several nights later, I FINALLY realized I could just close the bathroom door at night.
We’ve come to an agreement that we can both have all the water we want from 6am thru 8pm. We’re both well-hydrated. We both sleep better. And we both know who’s boss. I’m just not sure it’s me.
What have you taught and learned from your critters lately?
Love it…. and yes, there is always the question of who trains who….with pets, children, and special someones! 🙂
Nina, who is part blue-tick hound, has taught me the joy of celebrating reunions with a group howl! Good thing we have no nearby neighbors!
Too funny! Our dog, Patch, started that this past Sept. She’s 13 years old. Thankfully, she would go to Frank’s side of the bed and wake him up. (what a good dog!) Vet said nothing was wrong with her. When we limited her water after dinner, she rebelled by scratching to go in/out/in/out/in/out…well you get the picture…ALL evening. Finally she has stopped. Not quite sure what happened.
Judi, AMEN!
Mary Louise, can only imagine Nina and Bloss together ;);
Marjorie, what a relief to know Patch has found her balance. am hopeFULL for Bloss
thanks for chiming in ya’ll ~ AND to all who’ve joined in more privately, your comments and insights mean the world to me AND they help us all LEARN…
