got free?

My word for this year is LEARN.

So it just makes sense to use this Year of Sundays to reflect on 52 of my most significant Life Lessons.   Some may seem more significant than others, but each one has changed how I live my life in powerful way.   I’d love to hear if and how any of these same lessons have surfaced in the classroom of Your Life.

It never hurts to ask.

…especially when it applies to refunds and DIY.

My sweetie, Tom, is the master of asking for refunds.   Just this week, he got a complete refund (and some great coupons) after writing to complain about some Ziploc bags.  I’ve lost count of the times he’s written Nike about how the soles of his shoes wore down after a year or so.  And he’s gotten free shoes every.single.time.

Last year, his success inspired me to write Le Crueset about my favorite, very used dutch oven.  They mean it when they say ‘lifetime guarantee’.  Within two weeks, I had a shiny new one on my stove.

This week I called GE about my seven-year-old refrigerator.  It’s been been making a funky clicking noise.  I felt like I was hearing money go down the drain which each click.   After doing some research, I figured out it was the mother board.   Before calling a repairman, I kept researching and found out that faulty mother boards are a common problem with my model of ‘fridge.   So I called GE and gave a very nice woman named Diedre the details.  In less than five minutes, she agreed to ‘overnight’ a new mother board to me.  And thanks to a You Tube self-help video and Tom, in less than 15 minutes, the ‘fridge was fixed.

Yep, ‘free’ is fun.

What great refund adventures have you had latley?

  1. My mother was the Refund Queen back in the 1970s. She died well before Extreme Couponing became vogue, but she would have been right there!!!!

My adventure this week had nothing to do with a refund, but thanks to a wonderful Verizon Wireless customer service rep named Kimberly, I finally got someone to listen to me about my billing issue. And while it wasn’t “freely” resolved, she was able to resolve it as I proposed!!!!! Thank heaven’s for wonderful customer service people who help us to free ourselves of our product issues!!!

Hope your fridge is running fast enough that you can’t catch it!!!

  2. Lisa, it’s your perseverance that makes the day. So glad your fridge is fixed and it’s not clicking any more. Amazing what companies…..even the mega-large companies…will do if you’re nice about contacting them. May your fridge last for YEARS!

  3. Judi, you come for good stock and yay you on your Verizon triumph~

    thanks, Coach Tom!

and thanks to all of you who continue to reply more privately. recalling these lessons is even more fun with ya’ll in the ride with me.
