The other day, a friend asked me how the MS in my body was going these days. I simply said, “It sucks.”
It’s been 8,614 since I found out my body has multiple sclerosis in it. That’s 23 years, 7 months and 1 day. Over most of those days, MS has been the best thing that ever happened to me. Much of the time I tease that many of my friends have cooler diseases than me. Lately, not so much.
For those who don’t know, MS is a very variable dis-ease. If you meet 10 people who have MS in their bodies, you’ll probably get at least 10 different pictures of MS. One thing is a constant though – heat. And it’s hot in North Carolina right now. So my body has definitely remembered it has MS in it.
In the midst of The Heat, I’m feeling sad, disappointed, frustrated, and mad.
I’m also enjoying watching people dump ice on their heads for ALS, get a cream pie in the face for suicide prevention, and sing two lines to find the cure for Sanfilippo Syndrome . This is hopeFULL stuff. It’s the stuff from which Hope springs.
A few years ago, I posted this, on my 20th MS annivesary.
Some days, riding the dragon and finding balance (literally and metaphorically) is tougher than others. Some days, MS isn’t the best thing that ever happened to me. Some days, it just sucks. That’s why I’m embracing this new word balanish. It says it all – the reach for balance and gratitude, even with the grasp doesn’t.quite.make.it. I’ve got that covered. And today, it works.
I’m guessing many have been Here – en route to a healthier state and not.quite.there – yet.
So, how do you find your balanish?
Love you, Lisa. I love your honesty, humor, and grace. You’re a pleasure to know. Hope you get some relief from the heat soon.
Riding the dragon takes “balanish” and your the best dragon rider I’ve ever met my dear sweet soul sister! Keep riding… and I’ll say it with you “IT SUCKS!!!” but I prefer that to the alternative. I love having you on this earth with us to keep us on the path to “balanish” ourselves. Much love dear heart.
deep and humble thanks to Linda, Sue, all who’ve responded on FB and all who’ve responded more privately. you all teach me MUCH through your powerFULL spirits, grace and balanish!
