Enough #21

My word for 2020 is ENOUGH.

It’s such a great word and realization. And it’s so versatile!

  • I can use it while standing tall, with clenched fists and lots of exclamation points. “Enough of THAT!!!”
  • I can use it when I remember to put Fear in the back seat. So I can get on with Life. “Enough, already.”
  • I can use it when no matter how I try, things just don’t turn out as I planned or wanted. So I can allow a glimmer of grace to creep-in and flip my compassion switch ON. “:: deep sigh:: Enough.”
  • I can also use it when God/The Universe/and Everything Good presents one of those gobsmacking moments of awe and love. “THIS is enough.”

My dad was a born teacher. He was always teaching my sister and me. There were 12 years between Mari and I. She and I often laughed over the lessons Dad shared with each of us, as we left home.

In 1965, he told Mari, “Always have a firm handshake. Always look people in the eye. And ladies drink rum and Coke.”

Whe I left home, in 1976, Dad told me, “Always listen to God more than you talk to God.”

We could never be sure if his respective advice was more about what he thought we each needed at the time, or more about where he was, in each of those seasons.

Doesn’t matter now. Both were enough.

What kind of enough have you witnessed or experienced lately?
