Shift #28

My word for 2021 is shift. Like everyone I know, I’ve learned a lot, since this time last year. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that change and uncertainty just are. Since I’m not in control of much more than which yoga pants, Zoom-appropriate top, and slippers I’ll wear each day, I needed to figure out how I could deal with all the change and uncertainty. That’s where shifting comes in.

For me, shifts involve acceptance and adjustment. I know I don’t have much control, but I have unlimited choices. I can shift

Some of my recent shifts have been pretty significant. Some have been tiny. Some haven’t happened, yet. And I’m sure I’ll make a lot of shifts I can’t even imagine.

I began a shift this week that I expect will prompt many more shifts in my heart and life.

So, this is the story of the traveling (shifting) bottle tree.

When my friend Susan moved away from this area, she asked our mutual friend Lisa to enjoy the tree in her LKW yard. When Lisa needed to clear her yard during the construction of her new home, she asked me to enjoy it in my yard. That was a few years ago.

So, this tree has made a lot of shifts in its life. And I celebrate it being here! After learning more about the history of bottle trees, another shift I’ve wanted to make to the tree is to hang only blue bottles on it.

Thanks to my friend Mazie, I was able to make that happen this week. Here’s an image of Mazie’s favorite wine. Thanks to her creative sprit, she’d saved her empties for ‘who knows what’. And she shared them with me!

So, thanks to Susan, Lisa and Mazie, I get to enjoy my newly shifted traveling bottle tree. I especially celebrate that those evil spirits are now being captured by vessels that used to hold such an aptly-named beverage.

What kind of shifts have you made or witnessed lately?
