going with the flow…

My word for this year is LEARN.

So it just makes sense to use this Year of Sundays to reflect on 52 of my most significant Life Lessons.   Some may seem more significant than others, but each one has changed how I live my life in powerful way.   I’d love to hear if and how any of these same lessons have surfaced in the classroom of Your Life.

lesson 6Embarrassment isn’t fatal.

One of my favorite reminders of this lesson happened 26 years ago.  I’d been in this home a couple of weeks when I had plumbing problems in my bathroom.  So I called a plumber.

Two guys arrived a couple of hours later.   They quickly determined that the problem was the pump in the holding tank.  They had to drain the tank to replace the pump.  Since I’d never seen anything like this, I followed them to (you guessed it) LEARN.

When they removed the cement lid of the tank, we all looked in.   What we saw was about a dozen condoms  floating on the water.   I had nothing to do with why they were there.  REALLY!   The plumbers didn’t know this and they didn’t know me.  And I didn’t know them well enough to make some snappy, flippant remark.   So we all just stood  there – silently – as the tank drained.  We watched those condoms circle  all-the-way-to-the-bottom-of -the-tank-and (after the pumped was replaced)-all-the-way-back-the-top.  I was mortified!

Several months later, I had plumbing problems in my kitchen.  This time, the plumber arrived with four assistants!  Thankfully, I’d regained my sass and let them know there’d be no show this time.  We laughed.  They fixed the problem and went on their way.

Only two guys when I call the plumber now.

Your turn… 🙂
