My word for 2020 is ENOUGH.
It’s such a great word and realization. And it’s so versatile!
- I can use it while standing tall, with clenched fists and lots of exclamation points. “Enough of THAT!!!”
- I can use it when I remember to put Fear in the back seat. So I can get on with Life. “Enough, already.”
- I can use it when no matter how I try, things just don’t turn out as I planned or wanted. So I can allow a glimmer of grace to creep-in and flip my compassion switch ON. “:: deep sigh:: Enough.”
- I can also use it when God/The Universe/and Everything Good presents one of those gobsmacking moments of awe and love. “THIS is enough.”
There have been so many times, since mid-March, I’ve walked into my kitchen, ready for a meal or snack and was disappointed, only to find ingredients. I enjoy cooking, but sometimes I’d like to think of something I want to eat and it just be ready and waiting for me. I bet I’m not alone in that longing. Sometimes, ingredients aren’t enough.

Several years ago, my friends Jo, Kara, and Gene gave me this ‘emergency kit’. It was filled with decadent and delicious chocolate. Those original ingredients are long gone. So, I started filling this ‘kit’ with chocolate, butterscotch, and Heath Bar chips. Thanks to all of the cookies I’ve baked, since mid-March, those chips are now long gone, too.

So, earlier this week, I decided to restock my newly referred to ‘pandemic kit’ with actual chocolate delicacies, rather than ingredients. And for now, that’s enough. If I’ve learned anything about myself during this pandemic, it’s that focussing on now is enough. So that’s enough for now.
How about you? What’s in your ‘pandemic kit’? What’s your enough for now?
