tuning in…

I long ago gave up feeling embarrassed when I asked younger friends what kind of music they were listening to and what they thought I needed to tune into – musically.   I even try out some of their suggestions.   More often than not, I head back to my longtime favorites though.

It’s harder to do that with TV.  As this year’s Emmy Awards are being discussed, I’m amazed that I’ve never heard of many of the nominated programs or actors.  Aside from trusting that I can always find 60 Minutes on Sundays at 7pm or that West Wing reruns can be spotted on Bravo – it’s tough to find the television equivalent of Tom Waits, Clapton or Bonnie Raitt.

I did get hooked on one new TV show this season.  Modern Family makes me laugh out loud every single time I watch it.   I’m not a “Gleek” though.  And I have to admit, I really don’t care who America’s Next Top Model will be – I know it won’t be me.

So I ask ya’ll – what are you watching and what am I missing?

  1. Lisa,

Boston Med is on abc tonight at 10pm. It is real doctors and nurses doing their everyday work to save lives. Big Bang Theory on cbs is a hilarious show about young scientists.

I agree a lot of shows are geared for the 18-49 age group. I got an e-mail to do a survey from abc and the first question they ask is your age, as soon as they found that out, I was dropped like a hot potato! No more questions!

  2. I sooooo identify and I am currently IN the 18-49 age group! 😉 With a young family, I have trouble keeping up to follow any story line for long–I often forget what day it is after we get the kids to bed! But for an escape, I have enjoyed “White Collar” on USA Network (ends too neatly sometimes, but I like the characters) and for a dose of heroics, I like “Human Target.” I watch both online while I fold clothes. I really prefer British TV dramas, but we don’t get BBC America. Bummer. Great post, Lisa!

  3. My 19 year old son got me hooked on Desperate Housewives three seasons ago! Hard to believe, but we watch it as a family (my daughter is 17). And while Matthew is away at Cullowhee for school, we often text during the show.

This past spring, I also was hooked on Dancing With the Stars because I really liked Evan Lysacek. Just good clean fun!

The last show I was really addicted to was St.Elsewhere in the late 70s early 80s.

Friends loaned us the first season of The Big Bang Theory on DVD. I really enjoyed that too!

  4. love love love Glee – can’t miss Big Bang Theory and the Mentalist has the bluest eyes and crookedest smile on tv. However, I am currently living in Dripping Spring Natural Area near Las Cruces, NM and all I get to watch is the most gorgeous sunsets and evening skys ever.

  5. THANKS for all the tips, ya’ll!
i’ve set my dvr and will explore.

and Carol, i’m trusting you’re soaking in all that NM beauty enough for us all!
